Bertrand Marchal The Russian band outdid themselves with this new album, and God knows it was already some top-of-the-shelf music. It's some ghastly ambient doom that plays its part in dark, blurred shades. It works supremely well on me though!

tr_🇺🇦 Funeral Doom from Russia. 80 minutes! I have to assume, that they are creating soundtracks professionally. The noisy bits in the 3rd track are an unexpected highlight. Remarkable are the additional haunting female gutturals; almost a shock when the last song briefly turns into a choir of clean vocals. A delightful, surprising and worthy culmination of an excellent album.
For pure ritualistic ambient, try their live recording "Nga-Ri Session". Favorite track: Mchod Rten.

The third album by the Russian funeral doom metal band Abysskvlt continues the exploration of Tibetan spiritual culture. The musicians’ experiments resulted in the lyrics written and performed in Tibetan and Shangshung languages, moreover, twenty traditional Tibetan musical instruments were used in the recording. The album is dedicated to the theme of Leaving and describes the rituals of heavenly funeral and further spirit wandering through the abyss beyond Samsara borders. This is the most unusual funeral doom metal by Abysskvlt, with an even greater tendency towards the music of the ancient Bon tradition. This is the release for the initiated.

This was truly a revelation. I was getting started with funeral doom, working on something with my headphones on... Then came Déluge... my jaw actually dropped, I stopped what I was doing and, wide-eyed, just listened to the track, baffled and amazed. After the album was over (I never do this), I went to lay down with my headphones to enjoy it over again. I rarely heard (and felt) this much power and emotion in an album. Until I find something better, this is my landmark for peak funeral doom. fluo
